Tips to follow when picking out your floral arrangements:

First you have to decide what color before you can decide on what flowers. Its always a good idea to decide on the colors for your reception and ceremony as well so you can enhance or play down the flowers so they stand out and doesn't blend in. Consider the lighting during the wedding. A day wedding will wash out pale colored flowers and a night time evening one will wash out darker colors. Warm colors reflect light better and should be used in low light, while cool colors blend in the low light and should be use in brighter light. You never want to many neutrals colors.

Flowers tend to be pretty pricey. You going to need flowers for the reception, the ceremony, and the wedding party and immediate family. The reception flowers are the most important flowers and should spend most on those. Reception flowers will be the ones people see the most and up close. The wedding party flowers are photographed the most but don't play as much of a part as the reception. The ceremony flowers really depends on the on the rules of location. Some places have limitations for what you can and cant have decorated. 

Your style of wedding also plays a big factor in choose flowers. You don't choose white orchids for a laid back casual wedding or yellow sunflowers for a formal wedding. Flowers don't always fall in one category or another so its about how it feels. When you go to the florist it best to bring pictures of flowers or arrangements and colors that your interested in. If you would rather do the flowers yourself there is places that will ship them to you in bulk or table-ready arrangements.

 

Picking flowers at the peak of their season makes flowers more affordable then ones out of season. Some winter and spring blooming flowers include; amaryllis, anemone, calla lily, daffodil, heather, hyacinth, ornithogalum, ranunculus, sweet pea, tulip, and viburnum. Summer and fall flowers include; cosmos, dahlia, delphinium, hydrangea, aster, sunflowers, gardenia, poppy, and zinnia. Of course you have the one that bloom year round and those include; rose, stephanotis, lisianthus, orchid, and gerbera daisys. These are just a few of the popular wedding flowers. 

Picking the right kind of vase for the flowers can be challenging. You have to decide if you want to have all the vases the same or various shapes and sizes. Tall and narrow vases are ideal for torch shaped arrangements with flowers such as sunflowers or gladiolus.  Short and stout is perfect for low globe of flowers like roses and dahlias. Tall and wide is good for long stemmed flowers such as lilies or queen annes lace. Bud vase is good for top heavy flowers like ranunculus or black eyed susans. Urn allows you to make a bouquet with top heavy flowers. 

 Try to avoid planning your wedding around floral heavy holidays. They will run out of flowers and the florist will be more busy then normal. 

If you don't want to waste the flowers you just spend a lot of money one then you can always re-purpose them . You can always donate them to a hospice, a hospital, a nursing home or a meal delivery program. Use them in your own house, have the guest take them home or even donate them to a nursery.
